The European Sea Ports Organization, which participated in the Port Conference 2024 with Isabelle Ryckebost, was curious about the Port of Kristiansand. That's why Atle Johannessen was asked to share some of his insights about the future. As one of Norway's most strategically located ports, the Port of Kristiansand serves as an important logistics hub for both passengers and goods. With a focus on sustainability, digitization and green energy, the port is working purposefully to become an emission-free, future-oriented port.
Among other things, he was asked where his favorite place on the harbor is, and then Atle answers: "Choosing a favorite place is difficult. There are many places that are exciting and interesting, several of them have historical significance and highlight the importance of the maritime industry for the development of Kristiansand as a city. Nevertheless, as port director, I cannot overlook the "maritime operations center", which controls all incoming and outgoing traffic to the Port of Kristiansand and monitors all activity in our port areas. It is open 24/7 all year round and is the heart of our operations. But if I follow my heart, my favorite place is at the end of Lagmannsholmen, with a view of the sea in front of me and endless possibilities for the future, while I hear the port operations going on behind me."
