Gigantski in Korsvikfjorden and the christening of Fjord FSTR

4. June 2021

What a day! We have had the giant ship Pioneering Spirit in the small Korsvikfjord and Fjord FSTR has been christened in the city fjord.

Pioneering Spirit in Korsvikfjorden

At dawn today, work began on getting Pioneering Spirit into Korsvikfjorden to unload a heavy unit for storage at the quay.

The operation has been planned for a long time, and calculations have been made on location, depths and whether the quay could withstand the lift. Due to weather conditions, it was brought forward to earlier in the day. It all ended up going smoothly, and much faster than planned. Our harbor master, Karl R. Danielsen, highlights two success factors in particular:

"There are great people in the pilots, the crew of Allseas (the shipping company) and in the port. We know each other well and the cooperation has been impeccable."

"The only thing that went wrong was that the port's own boat, Molly, had trouble with a thruster. We quickly got that sorted out, and few people really noticed that it happened," the harbor master adds with a sly smile."

After the lift, the plan was to berth the ship in the city fjord, but we discovered that a lot of fishing equipment had been laid out and decided that it would not be safe to berth the ship there. Pioneering Spirit was therefore returned to the anchorage at Andøya.

Christening of Fjord FSTR

This afternoon, Fjord Line's new ship, Fjord FSTR, was christened by godmother and biathlete Marte Olsbu Røiseland.

"It's very special that the christening is being held in Kristiansand. Not many ships are produced in the city anymore, so we are very happy to be part of this. It's a big day for us, and we would like to congratulate Fjord Line", says port director Halvard Aglen.

Fjord FSTR almost doubles the capacity of both the transportation of cars and passengers between Hirtshals and Kristiansand. We look forward to the ship being put into service!

The christening took place on the cruise ship quay, and in connection with this we moved the cruise ship Viking Sky to Reden in the meantime. A brilliant digital event that was followed by hundreds on Facebook.

Gudmor Marte hit the mark and broke the bottle on the first try.
Congratulations to Fjord Line and all of Kristiansand!
