Work is now starting on a new container terminal at Kongsgård -Vige

The Port of Kristiansand has signed a contract with Risa AS to establish infrastructure and areas for the new container terminal at Kongsgård -Vige. The contract has an estimated value of NOK 250 million and is one of the largest single contracts the port has ever entered into.
The contract signing marks an important milestone in the development of Kongsgård -Vige. Here, the Port of Kristiansand will establish a modern terminal that provides increased capacity and facilitates efficient, safe and more sustainable freight handling.
– This is one of the largest and most important development projects in the Port of Kristiansand. We are very pleased that the contract has now been signed, and that we, together with Risa AS, can start the work, says Port Director Atle Johannessen.
The port was successful.
Risa AS was selected as the supplier after a public tender in April. During the waiting period, TT Anlegg AS asked the Agder District Court to stop the contract award through a temporary injunction. The company demanded that the tender be cancelled, or alternatively that the award be reversed.
Agder District Court did not uphold the claim. The court concluded that the circumstances that were pointed out had no bearing on the outcome of the competition. The choice of Risa AS as supplier is therefore firm, and Kristiansand Port can enter into the contract.
– Strong allegations have been made against the implementation of the competition. We have always had confidence in the work that has been done, and are satisfied that we were successful. Now we are putting an end to this part of the process and directing all attention to the implementation of the project, says Johannessen.
The legal process has delayed the start-up. Kristiansand Havn and Risa AS will now establish a revised progress plan and work together to ensure effective implementation.
Extensive work on the terminal area
The contract includes the establishment of central infrastructure and the preparation of areas for container and freight handling. Among other things, a new water and sewage system will be built, high- and low-voltage power lines and two new transformer stations.
Extensive mass replacement will also be carried out to establish a stable terminal surface that can withstand high axle loads from container trucks and other heavy port equipment. In addition, Vige Harbour Road will be rerouted and built into the existing rock cuttings of Ringknuten north of the terminal area.
The project builds on work that has already been carried out over the past couple of years on Kongsgård -Vige, and is a central part of the overall development of the port area.
Risa will collaborate with local actors
Risa AS looks forward to starting the work and highlights the interaction with other projects and local suppliers.
– Finally, the contract has been signed. We are very much looking forward to getting started with this important project. The work also fits in well with the development of the bicycle expressway in the area and provides an opportunity for good coordination between the projects. For us at Risa, it is important to collaborate closely with local players. We have Multiconsult, Kaspar Strømme and Landskapsentreprenørene on the team. Now we are looking forward to the start, and hope this will be the start of several exciting projects for Risa in Southern Norway, says Kato Risa.
Important for both the port and the city
The relocation of container activities from Lagmannsholmen to Kongsgård -Vige is an important part of the long-term development of the Port of Kristiansand. The new terminal will strengthen the port's role as a central hub for goods and logistics and better facilitate the interaction between sea and land transport.
At the same time, the move is a necessary prerequisite for the further development of Lagmannsholmen as part of Kristiansand city center.
– This is about more than building a new container terminal. The project lays the foundation for further development of the port, while opening up new opportunities for the city. Therefore, the contract signing is an important milestone for all of Kristiansand, says Johannessen.
